No more Bullying

Mama, Walk It Out week 1 day 7 excerpt

Day 7 with you wherever you go...

Recess. Older bigger kids who love to torture the nice, quiet ones. Have you ever been bullied? Me too. It never stops. Poking. Hair pulling. Horrible names.

The torment is real. Hidden when teachers, parent volunteers, or bus drivers aren’t looking. Mom tells me she has eyes on the back of her head. No one else seems to. How could she be the only one?

Other students don’t stand up for me. Cowards. I would. I know what it feels like to not have help.

Mom and dad talk to school administrators. Even the bully’s parents. He lives a few streets over.

“Walk away,” mom and dad recommend.

“But he follows me!”

“Ignore him. Eventually, it will stop.”

Have you ever had a defining moment? Me too. Everything changes. I became a superhero not knowing I could without changing clothes.

I’ll never forget riding home. The bully is seated behind me on the bus. Hitting the back of my seat with his knees. Nonstop.

I leap to my feet glaring into his eyes and scream, “Leave me alone!” Slapping him across the face. My hand stings.

Time stops. Seconds seem like years. Both of us are stunned. I slide back in my seat. Where did that come from? Why now? My heart pounds outside of my chest. What have I done? My mind races a thousand miles per hour. I’m in so much trouble. Mama is gonna kill me! What was I thinking?

My bus driver, Mr. Gus, forever becomes my hero. I glance and see him staring at me in his rearview mirror. He winks, clenches his right fist mouthing, “Thatta girl!”

I let out a sigh of relief. Sit taller with my shoulders back. As I get off the bus he whispers, “I am so proud of you. This stays between us.”

The bullying stopped. For the first time, I realize I am brave. I am strong. I have a voice.

Walk Deeper:
  1. Have you ever been bullied or picked on? Share your experience.

  2. Who protects or stands up for you? Do you have a hero?

  3. How does God have you? How and why?

“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”

‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭4:18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Message me which Walk Deeper question above impacted you the most and why. #1seems to be on replay for me right now as I'm really good at bullying myself. God is asking me to be kind and gracious to myself.
